Marit Hansen (ICPP, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany)

Marit Hansen is a computer scientist and is head of the "Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET)" Section and the "Innovation Centre Privacy & Security" at Independent Centre for Privacy Protection Schleswig-Holstein (the state privacy commission; Unabhängiges Landeszentrum für Datenschutz), Germany.

Since her diploma in 1995 she has been working on security and privacy aspects especially concerning the Internet, anonymity, pseudonymity, identity management, biometrics, multilateral security, and e-privacy from both the technical and the legal perspectives.

In several projects she and her team actively participate in technology design in order to support PET and give feedback on legislation, e.g., "AN.ON - Anonymity online" (2001-2006 - www.anon-online.de), "SPIT-AL - SPIT Prevention Solution" (2005-2006 - www.spit-filter.com) or "PRISE - Privacy enhancing shaping of security research and technology" (2006-2008). Marit Hansen works in particular on user-centred identity management and eID systems:

  • "Identity Management Systems (IMS): Identification and Comparison Study" (2003), commissioned by the JRC/IPTS Seville, which analyses requirements for identity management systems and existing applications;
  • "PRIME - Privacy and Identity Management for Europe" (2004-2008 - www.prime-project.eu), IST FP6 project, which develops solutions for privacy-enhancing identity management, among others in the field of eLearning; Marit Hansen participates in various workpackages, is responsible for the Activity "Outreach" and leads the Block "Tutorials and Dissemination";
  • "FIDIS - Future of Identity in the Information Society" (2004-2009 - www.fidis.net), IST FP6 network of excellence, which elaborates aspects of (digital) identities; Marit Hansen is responsible for the Activity "High-Tech IDs".
